Brian Magerko is an assistant professor of digital media in the School of Literature, Communication and Culture. As head of the Adaptive Digital Media Lab, Magerko's research focuses on the study of creating digital media experiences that adapt themselves to create an experience tailored to the user interacting with it. This work includes studying how to create games that match a player's playstyle learning and style, interactive narrative experiences and the creation of improvisational digital characters. His work is currently funded by the National Science Foundation and Georgia Tech's GVU Center.

Magerko's research has a strong focus on educational media. He has focused his work in computer games and interactive narrative to provide experiences that educate as well as deeply engage people. His current educational work is on the creation of virtual ecosystems that are constructed from real-world data that can be used to "digitally preserve" those environments and can also be incorporated into informal learning applications.

He earned a bachelor's degree in cognitive science from Carnegie Mellon in 1999, and a master's and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and engineering from the University of Michigan in 2001 and 2006, respectively.
